Released in August 2019, the Blackwing Volumes 42 limited edition Blackwing pencil is a tribute to the Jackie Robinson, taking its namesake from the number of his Brooklyn Dodgers jersey, number 42.
The included insert presents Jackie Robinson's career baseball stats.
From the back of the slipcover:
On July 6, 1944, eleven years before Rosa Parks famously refused to move to the back of the bus in Montgomery, Alabama and ignited the Civil Rights Movement, another individual refused to move to the back of a bus. He was 2nd Lieutenant Jack Roosevelt Robinson. His refusal earned him a court martial for "behaving with disrespect" and "willful disobedience of lawful command."
Lieutenant Robinson stoof his ground at trial and was acquitted of all charges. After being honorably discharged, he signed a contract with the Kansas City Monarchs baseball club to pursue his passion for athletics. A few years lafter, "Jackie" Robinson was called up to the Major League by the Brooklyn Dodgers, breaking the color barrier and providing much needed momentum to the desegregation movement that extended well beyond baseball.
The Blackwing 42 is a tribute to Jackie Robinson and those who pursue their passions creative or otherwise, regardless of the obstacles in their way. It features our balanced graphite, a blue imprint and eraser, road gray ferrule, and iconic red 42.
The Palomino Blackwing Volume 42. It’s more than just a pencil, it’s an experience.
